Soldering Tools

Soldering is the art of melting the solder and creating different things such as pendants from it. There are numerous soldering tools available in the market to choose from. Your choice should depend on the job you need to fulfill. In order to make the best choice, you should have an idea about the different tools for soldering. Here are some of the classic and famous soldering tools & supplies that you could use.

Common Soldering Tools

The Butane Torch:

This tool uses butane gas as the fuel from which it gets the power to work. This torch can be used for a number of purposes because it is versatile and can solder a number of metals. The highest temperature that it can reach is 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit which is hot enough to solder a number of metals.

The Propane Torch:

This is among the best soldering tools if you want to make pendants. The fuel used is propane, as the name suggests and it thus comes under the gas category like the butane torch. This is usually used to solder copper but it can be heated to a very high temperature of 3600 degrees Fahrenheit which is enough to solder numerous other metals too.

Oxy-acetylene Torch:

This uses a combination of oxygen and acetylene. The heat produced by this tool is much hotter in comparison to the above two soldering tools. The 6300 Fahrenheit temperature that it provides makes it suitable for cutting, attaching and melting the metal with ease.

Soldering Pens and Pencils:

These are lightweight and easy to use. These can be used if you are not comfortable with the torch or if you are not used to soldering with a torch. These pens and pencils are powered by butane.

Soldering Irons:

These can be gas or electronic soldering tools and you can choose based on the purpose and intricacy of your work. These may be used for a number of purposes such as car repair, electronic repair, crafts projects, metal work, and others. The Weller soldering iron is very popular and reputed because it is very efficient.

When you are soldering, you must be careful about a number of things for safety. Remember that you are using very high temperature and you must thus be sure not to harm yourself. To start with, never use any soldering tools without the protective mask. If you don’t cover your face, it can be damaging. Alongside, you should use only stainless steel irons or other tools so that the heat does not transfer into your fingers. Protective boots are also very important as well.
